I LOVE when the characters in books have to make tough choices. I use this graphic organizer to help the children see the pros and cons of each decision. It really makes the students think about choices and decisions that characters have, and that we have in real life.We are currently reading My Brother Sam Is Dead and some tough decisions had to be made by Tim and his father. Tim had to really think: What will be the consequences of each decision? At the bottom of the graphic organizer the children put the actual decision that was made. Another story that I have used this activity with is Island of the Blue Dolphins. Should Karena really jump off that boat? Christine

A friend of mine just showed me your blog. I teach 5th and 6th grade reading. I LOVE your ideas. Do you have a link anywhere to print the graphic organizers you use similar to the one in this post? I would love to have a copy.

Hi LeeAnn,
ReplyDeleteI don't have a scanner so I can't make the worksheet available. I wish I could. I am glad you are enjoying the blog. Its lots of fun to write it. Christine
What book is this graphic organizer from? Can you email me the name of the book to fuentgirl@cox.net?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Sorry, I don't know where it came from. Someone gave it to me long ago in a packet of various graphic organizers. Christine
